Pattern Play

Mixing patterns can be a little intimidating. Here are some tips that I keep in mind:
  1. Pair 2 different prints with a unifying color. That's what I did in this look. I chose white and blue from the pants and brought it out with the striped crop top.
  2. When in doubt, pair black and white. This might be the easiest way to mix prints. Black and white outfits are always so chic and modern. Try pairing black and white stripes with black and white polka dots.
  3. Pair the same print in two different colors. This is another simple way. Think of it as color blocking but with pattern.
  4. Use patterned accessories. Try leopard print shoes or clutch with a striped dress. A printed cardigan or statement coat would also do the trick.

Hope these little tips help! Happy Thursday!

Lately I have been on the search for the perfect pair of high-rise jeans. When I say perfect I mean very high. Above my belly button kind of high. They also must be a very dark blue rinse and super skinny. I have a few pairs already that come right at my belly button, but I really wanted that super high vintage look. Just like the ones you would find at American Apparel but without the AP price. Lucky me Abercrombie & Fitch are having a jeans sale where all jeans are only $40 ;) So, I'd like to introduce you all to my new, super high, super dark, super comfy, high-rise jeans!

I guess now it's safe to say that I no longer have the denim blues...

Gelato and a Movie at Union Market

Happy Friday!! Today's post is kind of a part 2 of Tuesday's post. I wanted to share with you guys where I was when we took those photos.
One of the many reasons why I love Instagram is that it allows me to find new places that I would have never known existed. What did we ever do before hashtags?! LOL Union Market in DC is one of them. It's a year-round indoor market featuring 40 local artisans. It has so much to offer and is still in the process of growing. When it's complete it will be a mix of retail, restaurants, hotel, and entertainment. What also makes Union Market unique is the addition of 2 of my favorite places, Dolcezza and Angelika Pop-Up. Dolcezza is a coffee and gelato shop. This location happens to be the actual Gelato Factory & Coffee Lab. Just opened this Summer, the Angelika Pop-Up is a three screen micro cinema right next door to Dolcezza. It's temporary while they build the permanent Angelika Film Center. If you have never been to this film center, you must. There are some in TX, NY, and VA. As well as some affiliated cinemas. If you like fancy, you'll love this movie theater. The Pop-Up location at Union Market is so cute and trendy with a lounge area and tons of vintage movie posters. If you're in the DC area make sure to make a trip here. Make it a gelato and movie night and show your same-day ticket stub to receive 10% off your gelato purchase. ;)

Floral Cardigan: Forever 21 $25, Tank: H&M $10, Shorts: Forever 21 $20, Flats: Target $20, Purse: Coach Factory

Happy Tuesday!

Kimonos, AKA long cardigans, have been very trendy lately. They might need some getting used to for some but I think they are super cute. I especially love them with swim suits (kinda like a cover-up), shorts, and short dresses. I found this awesome one at Forever 21 for just $25. It's a great piece to add to a simple look.

Hope you all have a great week!

Today's look is all about simplicity. Simple hair, minimal makeup, and an easy outfit have been essential these past few days with the heat. Trying to wear the least amount of clothes while still looking classic and chic can be tough. I like to go for light weight clothing that isn't too fitted. Nothing is worse that being hot and sticky in tight clothes. And monochromatic looks are super easy and chic.

Happy Thurday!
